Hanging with the Boyds- for REAL!

Last night Marcus and I went to a fun Christmas party at the home of Dave and Stormi Boyd.

Stormi had organized a fun ornament exchange for everyone there. Check us and our cool ornaments outs. I was lucky enough to pull number one and got the last steal- a cute wooden sled to match my tree.

Check out Marcus giving Hannah a ride. She is the cutest little girl- super petite like her Mom. Stormi said she weighs 27 pounds. Baby Joey was at the party also and at less than one year, he weighs 20 pounds.

The happy couple!

Thanks to Stormi for having us over and for sharing her great pictures from the evening with me!

Spahhhhh....

Saturday afternoon I met my friend Christi at Viva Day Spa. She had been there numerous times and recommended it to me. It is a very-Austin spa. It isn't formal or fancy. It feels very organic- from the people to the furniture to the scents. No one had a perfected European accent. No fancy flower arrangements on a shiny table.
We signed up for the Holiday Harmony Package - it was just what I needed to celebrate the White Rock Marathon being completed. First, we spent some time in the sauna. It is a little sauna for two people and filled with ice cold water to drink and magazines to read. After a few minutes, they bring you really cold towels that smell like peppermint. Ahhh! After the sauna, we had a dry brush exfoliation. They literally brush your body. It was better than I expected and good for my dry winter skin. Next came the one hour massage. Lovely! I had her focus on my legs and lower back which was perfect.
Then, a scalp massage with lavender oils. I never knew my scalp needed a massage. Next, she placed some thick moisturizers on me and wrapped me in warmed towels and a plastic sheet so that my body soaked in all of the lotion. She then placed cool cucumbers on my eyes and left me wrapped up for 10 minutes. Finally, while still wrapped up, I had a foot salt scrub and massage.
When finished, we had hot tea and a gift bag filled with some of their products, including my very own dry brush to exfoliate as often as I want. Christi said they run specials like holiday harmony often, I recommend you check them out!

Christmas Party Season

Last night we got the Christmas party season started! We had our Sunday School party with a new or used DVD exchange- very fun idea for large crowds. Everything from recent hit movies to AutoZone AC repair videos were exchanged.

After the Sunday School party, we went to see Bill and Kay. They have a large and scary (to me!) dog named Bella. We rarely see her as they kennel her in their bedroom when we visit. We were there longer than normal and Bella was restless, so she came out. Bill tried to prove what a sweet and loveable dog she is ... all 120 pounds of her!

Oreo Truffles- Yummy!

I have been to two different parties recently that served Oreo Truffles. They are yummy and tonight I learned they are super easy especially in part to the smart smart people at Williams and Sonoma.

They learned that lots of holiday recipes call for crushed peppermint. Until you have stood in your kitchen with 200 candy canes, a gallon size baggie and a rubber mallet, you don't appreciate the pre-crushed peppermints.

Thank you Williams and Sonoma!

Here is my platter of Oreo Truffles for our church Christmas party tomorrow night. Don't they look fabulous!

Man, I love Christmas!

Here is the recipe in case you have a party to attend too!

Oreo Truffles

1 bag - Oreo Cookies
1 carton - Philly brand Cream Cheese
10 oz. - Almond Bark
Your Choice of Sprinkles

Crush bag of Oreos in chopper. Pour into mixing bowl with cream cheese and blend until evenly dispersed. Roll into 1 inch balls and place on wax paper on cookie sheet. Place in fridge for 10 minutes. Melt almond bark according to package. Dip or spoon bark on Oreo balls. Sprinkle with goodies. Chill for 10 more minutes and enjoy!

NOTE: I used Mint Oreos and White Chocolate Bark with the crused peppermints. I used all Chocolate Oreos and Chocolate Bark and chocolate sprinkles for the darker truffles.

Snow Globe Card

Today I received a Christmas card from the Westin Galleria and Oaks in Houston and it has to be the coolest card I have ever seen.

Here is the flat version- the bottom is paper woven together and the top is layers of paper trees, homes, and snow in between clear hard plastic pieces.

When you slide the bottom out, it becomes a rounder card that can stand on its own. The clear plastic pieces become a fully rounded snowglobe. Very cool!

Our Infertility Story

Marcus and I have a wonderful marriage, a blessed life and the most amazing jobs, friends and family. We spend most of our posts sharing these blessings and experiences with everyone. However, it has come time to share a disappointing part of our lives- our lack of children. While I have talked to many friends and family personally, I've never blogged about our baby challenges. But, it is becoming more real and we could use the love, support, and prayers of everyone, so we decided to blog about it.

Marcus and I have been trying to have a baby since March of 2004. It will be 4 years in just a few months. We have seen various doctors during the process and just this past fall met with a team of medical professionals at Texas Fertility Center. I am so grateful to their staff because for once Marcus and I talk about the joys of having a baby rather than the disappointment of not having a baby.

Last night we took the next step and attended an IVF educational seminar. There were at least 50 other couples who feel a lot of what we feel and that felt good. We also got a Biology 101 lesson and re-learned about oocyte, chromosomes, and embyros.

We have made the decision to do IVF early next year. It is an 8 week process from taking the first pill to taking the pregnancy test. It all goes well, we will be pregnant at the end of February.

I promise not to turn this into an infertility blog, so I'll only share the major steps as they happen. I hope one day the blog is filled with a fat little baby of our own. Until then, we plan to continue to enjoy each day just as we have and share all of those journeys with you!

Love,
Marcus and Anna

End of Season Party

Last night we attended the end of season party of our fantasy football team- iConnect to the End Zone.

Pictured are Win N End, Hornets #75, Rookies, Anna's Bad Boys, Vick's Puppy Daycare (complete with a Vick jersey) and Central Texas Chargers. Our league mascot Katie also joined in the picture.

We were missing Axions, The Golden Domers, and Annihilators.

Marcus and I were exhausted, so we just stayed for about an hour, but it was fun to meet some of the people we had been smack talking with all season.

Plus, Heather gave me a thank you gift- a super cool cake pan that makes a football stadium. I can't wait to ice it red and orange for Texas v. OU weekend next year. It is the perfect Anna combination- sports and sweets! Thank you Heather!

Ran The Rock, Rocked the Cause!

I can not begin to explain what an amazing weekend we had! My Goddess girls and I have been getting together once a year since college. We always shop, eat, and catch up, but never have we come together for a cause. It was such a good feeling to be with such strong women who care about each other, their families and their community.

Here is a play by play....

On our way to Dallas, we got the call that Katy (miles 10-15) would not be joining us. Not only was she sick, but her house had flooded and her husband was out of town. She couldn't leave her house.

That meant Marcus to the rescue! He had packed running clothes just in case he got the call. Marcus was a great sport and was excited to join the team. The double-fisted drinking began with lunch at Bread Winners on Saturday morning.

After lunch, Chandra, Marcus and I met up with Billye at Scottish Rite Hospital for a tour. What an inspiring place! They do such amazing work for our children. They thought of everything. The hospital rooms are bright colors, they cover up all of the scary machines, they have a kids-only area for crafts, TV, and video games, and they make sure kids are able to be kids.

They even take teenage patients on ski trips each year with custom made orthodic legs built into ski boots or snowbaords.

Here is Marcus and I with one of their many Christmas decorations.

After the hospital tour, we checked into our hotel and then went to the pre-race party to meet Baby Will and his unbelievable parents. We snapped a quick photo with him after seeing the video that ESPN filmed of his story. In total, his family through everyone's generosity, will present Scottish Rite with more than $15,000 in donations. One little person can change the world!

Will was so expressive. I know that through the Lord, Scottish Rite and his special parents, Will truly will be able to do whatever he wants to do. The Lord put him with the right caregivers to make this possible. He was fearfully and wonderfully made!

After the party, us girls went to dinner and did a little Christmas shopping while Marcus hung out with his cousin Jason in Dallas and washed our new race shirts.

It was all fun and games and then Sunday morning hit!

The weather report had predicted everything from 40 and rain to sunshine and 80 degrees. The former was more accurate. It was COLD! Here is a picture of our full team (with Danni who drove in late Saturday night!) before the race began. It was around 45 degrees with an occassional rain shower and a strong wind.

Chandra ran the first leg and did amazing! She had never done a race before and had to maneuver among the 15,000 runners. She ran under a 10 minute mile for 6 miles! When she called home after her leg, her 5 year old daughter's first question was, "Mommy, did you win?" Having finished her leg alive, Chandra proudly exclaimed that yes, she had won!

Danni was next and got super lucky- her 4 miles leg was mistakenly reduced to 3 miles. She actually passed us on her route while we were trying to get to the exchange point. She did phenomenal and was able to go much faster than she predicted.

As you can imagine, if Danni's leg was short, someone's leg was long. Yep, that would be our Plan B runner, Marcus. In a mere 24 hours, he had gone from not running to 5 miles to 6 miles. As a wonderfully supportive husband, he took it all in stride and ran his 6 miles with a smile. Yea Marcus!
I was up next for miles 15-20. I am proud to say that it was the longest I have ever ran and it was my personal best mile for mile time. I am also thrilled to tell you I did the race without shin or shinkle pain! Three Alleve, a rolling pin and lots of water and stretching did the trick!

My leg is one of the hardest stretches for the full 26.2 marathon runners, so it was filled with Hooters girls, men dressed like Dolly Parton, beer, art work, live bands, candy and lots of Gu. It really made the 5 miles go by quickly. Marcus met up with me at Mile 4 to keep me company and we did the last mile together.

When I was done, I passed the lime green slap bracelet (a modern baton) to Billye who ran the next 6 miles. She did a great job and I am so grateful that she organized us into this race. Thank you Billye for sharing Will with all of us!

Finally, the last .2 miles were upon us and we all met Billye to finish as a team. Marcus ran ahead and snapped a picture of us running the final stretch. We could see the balloon arch of a victory just ahead of us!

When we crossed the finish line it read 5 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds. Woo Hoo! We were not last and beat our 6 hour predictions.

We all were awarded green relay team finisher medals and proudly wore them to lunch and all the way home. I may still be wearing it.... just kidding!

Overall, amazing weekend! Will and his family is an inspiration to us all. I am proud that my friends and I ran the rock and even prouder that we rocked the cause!

Early Presents

Tonight Marcus and I went out to dinner to celebrate the end of a hard week. I had an Executive Committee meeting and had to make a myriad of presentations including one on the current status of our internet marketing campaign and explain organic vs. paid Google searches.... all exciting new parts of my job. Marcus had a deal go awry and a bunch of VPs at NI knew his name!

When I got to dinner, Marcus had a Christmas present for me- a 2007 snow globe. I collect Christmas snowglobes and have about 30 of them. This one is super cute, but when I opened it, a leg (bootie as Marcus called it) was missing. He sat a little crooked.

Since I got to open a present, I let Marcus open one to- Mastermind. This is a favorite childhood game of his. We have the classic plastic version from the 80's and now own the deluze wooden edition. When he opened it, the box was broken- check out the exposted wood on the left side.

What is this world coming to? Who is making our toys and why aren't they making them any better?

Side bar: To my KW friends, Mastermind is not anything like a MAPS event. It is actually a fun game where you try to predict what another person is thinking by guessing an order of events. They give you hints if you are close and eventually you run out of guesses and lose. Wait a minute, maybe the two Masterminds are alike? Hmmm....

Christmas Pictures

Isn't my husband cute? I love his funny faces and am so grateful Kristi captured one of them while taking our Christmas photos last night.

More serious pics will come with our Christmas cards, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share the silly one!

Zappos Problems

I think we all know that I love shoes! And where do I love to get my shoes.... ZAPPOS!

I have never had one single problem with them. They deliver my shoes quickly, they ship them for free, heck, they let me return them for free.

But, this week, I have had my first bad Zappos experience. I ordered Marcus a present from them on Sunday and when it didn't arrive Monday morning I was a little perplexed. I looked at my account online and saw it was on it's way.

I got busy at work and realized today that I had no present for Marcus. I went back online and my package has been lost. I won't say Zappos is to blame, more UPS really. It went out for delivery on Wednesday and never was signed for or returned. No one can find it.

I have to wait 9 business days for UPS to claim it dead and then we'll see if Zappos steps up to the customer service plate and replaces my items. Wish me luck!

Oh My God- It is Here!

I can't believe the White Rock Marathon weekend is upon us. In just 5 days, we will be running our marathon relay. It is all becoming very real! I am scared my shins will hurt and my time will suck, but I am more excited to do this with Billye, Katy, Chandra and Danni! I can't wait to meet Will on Saturday, see his ESPN feature video and to meet his amazing parents, Reagan and Katie. Beyond Will, we are running for all the boys and girls at Shriner's with hand and feet differences. I hope we can inspire them as much as they have inspired us. Please pray for us girls as we run on Sunday morning- our health, our stamina, and for good weather.

May your merry be very!

The Cards go on forever...

... and the party never ends!

Saturday night I coordinated a group of my fellow scrappers to come together and make our Christmas cards. Little did we know how much room or time it would take!

We practically spent the night at TAFP's conference room making cards for our friends and family. Some of us started as early at 5:00 PM and stayed until 2:30 AM. Yep, that is right.

If you are receiving a Christmas card from Kristi, Brandi, Natalie or Mary, please share your appreciation of their hard work.

While Kristi and Natalie had to cut out at 12:00 midnight, Brandi, Mary and I stayed until the end to show off some pretty snazzy cards.

Brandi is modeling a high style ensemble of traditional red, chic lime green and a bold turquoise. Featuring numerous circles, a personalized photo from their recent wedding, rhinestones (aka diamonds), and ribbon, this card is sure to be offered just this year only.

I promise you Brandi's card will feature less circles next year. In all, she cut out over 300 circles for her card!

Mary is debuting her first ever handmade Christmas card. A brave girl, Mary went for embossing on her first attempt. Showing off the latest in metallics, Mary's card features silver swirls on gold metallic paper, an oversized ornament complete with sheer coordinating ribbon, and a well thought out message inside.

Although Kristi and Natalie's cards are not on display yet, there are sure to be winners as well!

Where is my production, you ask? Look for it in a mailbox near you in the coming weeks!

Go Scrooge Yourself

Robyn of the old Irish Claflin Clan found a cute little website where you can make your family into elves and have them dance a little holiday jig. While checking out her elves, I found that you can take it one step further....

Check out my dear sweet Christmas lovin' husband Marcus spreading his own holiday cheer-

I appreciate that he humors me!

Learning is fun

So I finally learned how to post Youtube videos onto blogspot. This...is not a good thing necessarily. I want to apologize now to Anna for filling up the blog with crazy You Tube videos, and to anyone that is unfortunate enough to watch em.

For the innaugaural post, I offer his Greatness in strange. Mike Leach, Head coach of TTU. We are the Raiders. not the pirates. But not so Mike would notice.

Reindeer Run...

Today was the 2nd annual Lifetime Fitness Reindeer Run that Anna and I signed up to do...it's the last weekend before the big ROCK marathon relay.

Unlike last week, the rain was......bearable. Just little bitty drizzle here and there...and it was 65, not 35 this time. So not so bad weather for this one...

However....I need to log a grievance with the directors of this race. This was advertised as a 5K.....this was NOT a 5K. My time was a couple mintues over our "mistake at the lake" as was Anna's I swear by my Brooks running shoes, this was at LEAST 3.4miles...maybe 3.5. Afterwards, there were bananas, and napping.....and there was much rejoicing....

A Beacon of Hope

Tonight we served as a beacon of hope and opened our home and Directv service to the Time Warner cable refugees who could not get the big NFC Packers v. Cowboys matchup.

It was a great game! Although, we do feel really sorry for Marcus' coworker Marlena who was at the game. She missed a big run play while in line to use the bathroom and then saw her all time favorite player Brett Favre get injured. That never happens- he holds all kinds of records for consecutive play. Poor Marlena!

None of the drama mattered to James. He enjoyed the piano more than the football!

The New Christmas Tree

When my friend Stehpanie asked if anyone wanted her old Christmas tree, I jumped at the chance to do an upstairs tree in our loft. It is the only big windows on the front of our house and big windows call for a Christmas tree.

Since my tree downstairs is pretty traditional red and green, I decided to have fun with this one and made it turquoise and white/silver. Thanks to Garden Ridge and Hobby Lobby for having their ornaments half price! I like these colors, it makes me think of cold weather.

Brrr!

Playoff Bound Baby!

I love sports, competition and statistics so you can imagine how much I love fantasy football!

This week, I am celebrating my leap from 5th place to 2nd place in our church fantasy football league. I had the second most points this season this week! It has been a great week. To stay in second place I need to beat my Week 13 opponent. Oh, wait, that is my dear sweet husband. What is a girl to do?

Marcus might be eliminated from the playoffs if he does not beat me this week. He is set to win the worst luck award for our league. He has repeatedly picked a player only to see him get hurt.

Heaven help us as we prepare for next Sunday!

- Anna
